Maintenance

An “ocean breeze” sounds relaxing, but when the calm gusts turn violent, the property’s to-do list tends to grow.

The wind alone is probably the biggest contributor to the beating that your exterior takes. Whether it’s bringing sideways rain or salt and sand, many parts of the house become affected. Driven rains wear on windows, doors and roof flashing. Small paint chips turn to rotting or compromised wood within a few seasons. If overlooked, the vacation home ends up with larger expenses than your primary residence!

Here’s how to prevent costly, large scale repairs that are due to wind. Perform the maintenance in pieces. Work your way around the house scheduling one or two touch ups a year. Paint, cleaning or general attention. You may feel some are tedious and unnoticeable, but that’s a good thing! When it comes to the exterior of a coastal house, the longer you wait to keep up with it, the longer the number on the check!

Community

What can you find at Refind Modern in Charlestown? For one, the best and only selection of mid-century modern furniture pieces in South County. And two, stand up owners and great conversation. I’ve known both Colin and Seth for many years. Seth, a family friend who everyone in town speaks highly of and Colin since I was 16. Whether you’re looking to add some new pieces to the house or you're just looking for something to do, cruise through their shop that’s right off of Rt. 1 and say hello. They’ll be happy to chat about anything you may be looking for.

Side Note: Refind Modern is currently stocking up for the spring/summer rush. While the summer communities slow during the off-season, they hit the road and search out new finds for their shop. Check them out before the busy season!
