I usually list the community topics last on the newsletter but I felt that this update was arguably more important than my basic maintenance tips.
The “Taylor Swift Tax” is growing in conversation. And it seems us Rhode Islanders are the only ones aware. The tax is likely to affect you more than me …

“The so-called "Taylor Swift tax" refers to a proposed Rhode Island law that would impose a surcharge on non-owner-occupied homes valued at over $1 million. This means that if a homeowner owns a second home in Rhode Island that is worth more than $1 million and isn't their primary residence, they would be subject to a new tax. The tax would be $2.50 for every $500 of assessed value above the $1 million mark.”
For some, not that concerning. But for those who own more than one property in South County, this may be something that you should keep an eye on. From what I’m hearing, many feel an approval is likely.
Maintenance
Mold, mildew and showers. When it comes to summer prep, working to clean your outdoor shower is on my list. I’ve come to realize that many showers and the decking within them have become compromised due to the length of time that they went uncleaned. Have no fear, we’re here now and plan to bring them back to life!

When the mildew sits, mold grows and eventually eats at the wood. This makes the surface extremely soft. And in the worst case, the whole board. Then when it comes time to clean, as the mold gets washed out, it takes pieces of the wood with it. “Well, if it’s really bad, we can just replace it. Won’t cost much” EHHHHH, while you won’t be looking at the cost of an entire shower build, ipe and cedar are at an all time high. Trust me, you may be surprised when I put the material quote together.
In all, you can plan on my upkeep. But in short, if they’ve been forgotten about, it will likely take more than just one hour of power washing to revive them.
